Sex Therapy is a clothing on talk therapy with an expert trained in human sexuality who understands the medical, interpersonal, and psychological factors that influence sexual functioning, sexual fulfillment and the experience of sexual pleasure.  Dr. Wakefield creates a safe environment where clients can explore sexual difficulties, longings, desires, and values. She has experience in working with a wide variety of sexual dysfunctions, including loss of desire, arousal disorders, orgasmic difficulties, sexual pain issues, sexless marriages, unusual arousal templates, compulsive sexual behaviors, and the necessary adjustments that come with chronic illness or sexual changes that occur as we age.   She can help discern if the problem might have a medical basis and suggest follow up referrals to assess medical dimensions of the problem.  Sex education is always a part of sex therapy, along with the opportunity to normalize certain difficulties, a space to talk freely and openly about the difficulties and concerns, including questions about what is “normal.”  She honors each client’s religious values in developing a meaningful and fulfilling sexuality.
